James,
I don't know about prices increasing, or rather I do know (they won't), but I do think things might get a little better whether the deal goes through or not. At least for awhile. The most disturbing thing about the CC to me--at least aside from general principle--was an analyst talking about Hitachi allegedly starting to become a player in the DD arena. This would be very bad, if true. We don't need another player right now. Unless they plan on buying someone (preferably someone other than WDC), I find this a remarkable action for them to take. What on earth would attract them to this sector? Perhaps it is the consumer appliances, I don't know. Even so, someone over there must be a serious masochist/lunatic if they really are thinking about becoming a player in DDs at this point in time. As someone else said, though, they are very very small right now, and won't make a dent in the supply/demand equation for quite awhile without an acquisition.
