Leo, While the COT Report is an enigma of sorts, one fact is unequivocal: the commercials have never built a short position this massive in the SPX.

Market internals and breadth has improved, but market sentiment is extremely bullish as measured by the low put/call ratio and this is extremely Bearish. Rydex confirms it unlike October 98 when the deck was stacked in the short accounts.
