I've been hiding in Prague in the Czech Republic. I'm now back to Siemens implementing mobile networks' projects. I manage the implementation of the Radio access -putting up Microwave (MW) links between Base Terminals Stations (BTS's) and Base Station Controllets (BSCS's.

I just finished a gargantuan marathon where I completed 240 MW links in three weeks. We aim to cover 98% of the Czech population in exact one year. We are going to break every record of the deployment. The pace is brutal and there is no time to think. Now that I am winding down I start thinking about this business once again.

I have back home in my computer the more clear message about evaluating the telecoms markets I ever read. Remember when you've written that there are two levels of understanding in SI? Remember that you wrote that people mix the levels of understanding in the night? I saved that message. If you apply that reasoning to what is happening to mobile networks my posting become more sharp.

More coming...

The cry of the Finns.

The Finns are doing something the Germans are good at. They are tryng to capitalize in the perception that they are somehow different. And that kind of 'Finishness' will make them better at using mobile technologies. (Daimler-Benz is master on that kind of marketing in the case of cars) They are selling some kind of 'Finishness' obvioulsy because they have Nokia.

Reality is a bit more mundane. We use SMS as daily tool. And we don't make a fuss about of that.

During the Big Action when we had to cover all main roads od Czech Republic or break, I used two mobiles to hand four subcontractors and field engineers. Swapping batteries or SIM card as they were exhausted.

Away from my PC, I was getting priority links I was firing (misspelled) starting messages and get ON AIR links back via SMS. The BTS commissioning guy, beside me, set up conference calls between people in disparate parts of the country on the the fly.

You can even use the Internet to send a message to a South African operator and the message is relayed over GSM and will appear in my mobile as SMS. No Finishness involved.

I will be back...
