Sam, here's another article about the AT&T/MOT deal to develop Fixed Wireless Broadband. I find the statement at the end about how quickly they expect to roll systems out to be amazing. This also reflects on the ramp that Netro will face as they have to supply these numbers. Regards, Mark AT&T and Motorola to broaden Net appeal By Total Telecom staff 14 July 2000 AT&T Wireless and Motorola Inc. announced Friday they are to jointly develop a fixed wireless platform that will allow the delivery of high-speed voice and data services to subscribers both inside and outside of the U.S. According to Motorola, AT&T will provide the vendor giant with a temporary licence to supply equipment to local service providers outside the U.S. The products they develop will meet global fixed wireless standards, said the companies. No financial terms of the deal have been disclosed. Michael Keith, president and CEO for AT&T Wireless' fixed wireless division, is confident the system will prove popular due to the nature of connection it will offer: "Having an always-on high-speed connection and flat-rate pricing will change the way [people] access and use the Internet," he said. This is particularly applicable to customers outside of the U.S., as currently they primarily pay per-minute rates for standard speed Internet access. The service will initially be launched in six markets, but AT&T spokesman Ritch Blasi was unable to comment on which markets these might be, saying only that an announcement would be made within a couple of weeks. The service should be in place and available to 1.5 million subscribers by the end of this year, and to ten times that amount by the end of 2002.
