I would be interested in the reference. The main thing, though, is that the Church did not, as a matter of policy, oppose learning, and, in fact, was partially responsible for its preservation and revival. There was, indeed, a tension between secular pagan literature and the Church, but in the long run such disputes landed on the side of learning, which is why Aquinas cites Aristotle, Maimonides, and even Al- Farabi as authorities on various occasions......
