Hi, Frank - The desire of the founder(s) of this thread to maintain an objective stance is well understood, perhaps more by some than others. Agreed, without reservation, that this is desirable.

And yet, it can be true that a company embodies the concept at hand, in pursuit of its business plan. For example, the discussion of VOFDM/WOFDM prompted a whole string of sub-discussions (patents, wireless trends, modulation/coding techniques, corporate psychology), all implicitly, sometimes explicitly, connected to the principals, Cisco and Wi-LAN.

I am not sure that it is possible, or desirable to completely divide companies from general discussions of practices. I have made multiple references to T in the last while; Mike's posts stand out for his recurring references to Alcatel. I have no investment in T; neither do I have any problems with Mike's references to Alcatel, because the references also pertain to larger issues.

We had Hatim Zaghloul on here for a short while, before IPR issues made it necessary for him to leave. As I recall, his presence was warmly received.

The sense of your post is well taken; yet, I feel we could liberalize the stance a bit, without allowing a descent into simple advocacy.

FWIW, another point of view.

Best regards,

Jim

"Even in those cases where someone has a favored play (lml:AFCI::MikeW:ANTC<?>)..."

Thread- Whoops. I guess maybe I mentioned ANTC to much. But I really try to balance out my views. If you go to the ANTC thread, I wrote some scathing things about ANTC. And another favorite of mine, DY, I posted a lot of the negatives upstream on this thread.

As far as ALA, it's odd, but they are into so many things, and I keep up with them fairly closely, so when it comes on topic, I generally mention them. But I have to say, as I said on the FCTF thread, I liked ALA much, much more pre-Newbridge days. I could see the writing on the wall the combo would bring to the table, and hopefully that is when I posted the most about it. Now I'm not so sure.

Anyway, I have a LOT of positions that take advantage of mainly the access spending. Keep in mind, I sometimes hold small core positions, while trading just about as much as I'm holding. Some I don't even hold that I like. TLAB for instance. Great company but incredibly volatile. It's not something I feel comfortable holding long term. ANTC kind of falls into that category too. DY I feel more comfortable holding. But then again, if that analyst comes out and says DY is cooking the books again, DY can even be volatile.

Anyway I could go on and on with about 60 different companies I follow fairly closely. I watch and hold a LOT of positions, and my favorites change ALL the time depending upon market cap. So I move in and out of them quite often. So if anyone reads my comments about specific companies, please keep this in mind. -MikeM(From Florida)
