Given that the essential IPR for both CDMA 2000 and WCDMA is owned by QCOM, I am often puzzled by it's 'laissez faire, let things unfold, we collect either way' approach. I understand why the Q doesn't refuse licences for WCDMA (Why cut off your nose to spite your face?) but don't understand why it doesn't require higher royalties from companies opting for WCDMA. Can anyone enlighten me on this?
