Carl,

VIA announce that they are going to go into the memory business, and are going to produce RDRAM

I think you just started a rumour. I hope to see a rebuttal from VIA next week. ;^))

Carl,

Re Micron stepping back out of DDR chipset business... This isn't much of a surprise,

That wasn't what you said in message #43555 when you counted up the number of DDR chipsets coming out. When you find the post with the article about Micron canceling Samurai, you'll also see that it says that the vendors seem to not trust Ali (a quality problem?) and that one of the other vendors (SIS, I think, without looking back at the article) won't have chipsets until 1H2001 (a delay from the schedule you posted).

So it's not just Micron that is potentially out of the game. I would agree that VIA is the key player, so we'll have to see what happens from here with them. Given that a portion of the Intel lawsuit has been dropped, we'll have to wait and see exactly what was negotiated.

Dave

Hi Bilow. How have you been? Did you see this?

"Is Rambus Worth the Price Yet?

Benchmarks show performance falls short for the current cost, but keep watching.

For months, we've wondered when Rambus dynamic RAM would begin to demonstrate real-world performance benefits. We're still wondering. Head-to-head against today's standard SDRAM PC memory, it's a wash, at best."
