hi harry,

re "You guys just kill me. Careful, Mr. Mark, you almost used the B word yourself in your answer to miklosh (doesn't EB count?)"

i hope that our effect on you is really not as lethal as you claim it to be. <g3> on a rainy day, we may be all you've got.

there seems to be more than a little confusion over the b-word, and i am afraid that i have perpetuated most of it myself. in my particular case, the b-word is NOT a reference to benhamou. it is, instead, a reference to a favorite word used by a now-departed, controversial poster on this thread. i just can't b-b-bring myself to say it, so perhaps it's b-b-best if i drop it.

luck to us all

:)

Harry:

Glad we're providing some light relief!

I agree with you that all kinds of machinations can happen with officers' options. But in 3Com's case, 95% of the overall outstanding options are held by rank and file employees, and not officers/directors, so I still think the exercise is worthwhile - but only if it results in useful info!

In any case, as an engineer, I'm a number crunching junkie, and it actually has both saved me from some mistakes and helped me realize some significant gains. And a couple of times when I've gotten lazy or haven't had the time, I've regretted it. So as long as it's a net plus, there's no downside.

Good luck.

David T.

<Mang Cheng, as I posted awhile ago in response to a Mr. Mark comment, I don't really see anything wrong with holding PALM as the investment and using COMS as the vigorish for the long term. Other than short term trading profits (which, I admit, look like a fairly low risk activity), do you see a
reason *not* to sit tight for a couple months with COMS & PALM?>

Harry, coms and Palm are all good long-term plays - especially Palm. I think Palm is the young-cisco-microaoft-intel and as mrmark like to point out it's the young-Yahoo too. I don't see any problems with sitting tight with both for the next two months.

But next week is option expiry and things will get ugly after all these run ups - not only coms/Palms but many other stocks. A short minor pull-back in the market maybe in order.

On the otherhand, Palm will probably issue some positive news in the next two weeks. It hadn't say anything for quite a while since earning report.

Then, Palm may keep quiet before distribution so as not to drive the Palm to high and cause too much dilution to coms.
