<Where did you hear that fixed sites would be distributed in February?>

On January 25, 2000, at the CEUT Satellite Conference, with Schwartz, Zahler, and Clonan in the breakout session. My notes say, "Fixed terminals about 15% of original order--1st fixed phones deployed in February." A reasonable person would assume that meant February of 2000! I must back off my assertion that Zahler said the above because I do not have attribution noted; however, Zahler gave the majority of substantive information that day.

Regarding the earlier thread discussion of the February '01 scheduled launch ... in thinking out loud, couldn't it simply be a contingency launch that won't be used--i.e. scheduled just in case they need to launch ground spares to replace lost birds? I did find a somewhat related note (also from CEUT on 1/25/00) from Zahler: "Can increase system capacity by about 20% by bringing more lines into GWs, 4 more sats, and software upgrades." If, in fact, they are planning a Feb. '01 launch, the only reasons I see are replacing failed sats or increasing capacity. At this point, there isn't evidence of the need for either.

Note: The items in quotation marks above are not exact quotes, instead, they are summaries directly excerpted from my notes.
