So roaming, or the ability or ease of roaming, does matter!
Try telling that to the one-eyed cyclops on the Moderated Thread!

The reason CDMAone is not making any further headway in North Asia (Japan from the start, China largely to date and now perhaps Korea) has nothing to do with the superiority of its air interface technology, it has everything to do with political issues and commercial sense, in that order.

The EU bloc has every reason and initiative to delay the introduction of CDMA2000 in Asia, and when the EU political priorities and those of North Asian countries coincide, guess what happens?

A tremendous number of the posts on the various Q threads seem to be focused on the technical superiority of CDMA2000 over W-CDMA, but right now this is like bashing heads against a brick wall. Technical superiority alone is not going to get CDMA2000 adopted in Asia. The Europeans are playing the political game much better at this point in time.

The strategy is simple: Blanket Asia with GSM and hold until
W-CDMA is ready. Given the installed base of GSM in Asia, it is not diffcult to convince operators that expanding their GSM networks allows them to generate more high margin roaming revenue - anyone looked at the statistics of international business travel within Asia lately?

Just my two cents worth.
