Sorry, I used the term loosely. Let's say the "European bloc". GSM is perceived as a European standard. W-CDMA is perceived as a European std.

Small coutries in the EU have an influence out of all proprtion to their pop size.

Greece and Ireland are two prime examples of countries that ahve received massive amounts of EU $ (OPM) because they have a vote in the running of the EU. Comes to a vote for soemthing the EU wants and up go their paws to get paid.

NOK and ERICY were probably among the main reasons that their respective countires joined the EU. If they want something like deploying their inferior junk around Asia you can bet they will have all sorts of help from the EU. Without it why would anyone who walks around without a keeper buy W-CDMA?
