uncle west,

That post about your investing process is one for the ages. Definitely a keeper! I've got it bookmarked under "Uncle West's Methods."

it amazes me that folks will invest huge sums in gmst but won't pay a few bucks for a tv to check it out first.

Even more amazing is that anyone can go into a Circuit City and check them out without having to buy the television. A good friend of mine who owns Gemstar stock told me just last night how enthusiastic he is about its future after having come back from a business trip in Norway and seeing that the television in his hotel room was Internet-capable. Sometimes there's nothing like holding a product in your hands to appreciate how good or bad it might be.

i wondered how many guys who questioned yuen's purchase of the e-books patents had ever seen or used an e-book.

Exactly!

Unclewest,

That was a wonderful post. You may have StockHawk's post on your wall (I e-mailed it to relatives) but this one of yours goes right along side of it. A classic.

John

Morning unclewest,

Thanks for one of the most thought provoking posts that I have read in sometime. It is now posted up beside Stockhawk's.

I have one small favor to ask and that is will you update us from time to time on your "shiny pebble" list? It will be interesting to follow/and invest in some of the more promising companies out there. I have been following MVIS for awhile and glad to see you are also.

Later,
Joel

Thanks for the great post.

> cert...wireless cryptography, design wins rolling in...revenues ramping...but still very small.

How do you (or others) see the open source movement affecting cert?

Processing of Mexican General Elections Results
Supported by Globalstar Satellite Telephones

MEXICO CITY--(BUSINESS WIRE)--July 11, 2000--During the Mexican general elections earlier this month, election
officials, researchers, reporters and politicians were able to remain in constant communication using Globalstar satellite
telephones. The recently-launched service brought voice communications to regions in Mexico which are typically out of reach
of conventional telephony, and election officials and candidates, as well as the media, were able to cover the general elections
and publish exit polls minutes after closing hours.

``Globalstar has proved once again the efficiency and need for satellite systems in areas that up until now have been without any
form of telecommunications,'' said Lauro Gonzalez, chief executive officer of Globalstar de Mexico. ``Globalstar recognizes the
great need to keep remote regions linked to the centers of economic activity in the country at affordable costs.''

Even before the actual elections, several candidates, including presidential candidates, stayed in touch throughout their
campaign tours, even in remote areas with no traditional or cellular coverage, using Globalstar telephones.

``Currently in Mexico there is one telephone line per ten inhabitants, with lines concentrated primarily in major cities and other
densely populated areas,'' Mr. Gonzalez noted. ``As our experience during the elections has shown, Globalstar service can play
a major role in helping to bridge this shortage of telephone service in rural areas around the country.''

Globalstar de Mexico, founded in 1996, is a joint venture between the Mexican holding company Principia, Vodafone
AirTouch Plc., and Loral Space & Communications. For more information on the Globalstar system, please visit their web site

" i establish a long position in shiny pebbles when it is patently obvious that the world wants the product...the testing is complete...massive design wins are in place...and mass production is underway or about to begin.

Pun intended??

Gotta to love those patent protected, royalty bearing enabling techologies in mass markets tornadoing all the while. What not to like?

You forgot to mention ARMHY which I know you hold and fits the bill. And Cert really is cool capturing design wins a la WIND, profitability like ELON, business models of selling products, licenses and future royalties like Q. Way early for this thread but way interesting for me to have taken a small position over the last three months.

Best

unclewest: Many many thanks for sharing your concepts and "specific methods" so generously. It is a must print out and retain for future (and frequent) reference for me.

Your real world approach is a fascinating one. Very practical and clearly profitable for a serious investor with patience and willingness to "invest" in developing "knowledge based" investment procedures and practices. What is especially key to me is the mixture you use of analytical techniques and real world practicality. And your group of people who exchange ideas, approaches and specifics.

Again thanks.

Cha2

PS And thanks for your willingness to run the gauntlet here to introduce CREE. I am specifically grateful for that.
