"Which is why the dominant GSM vendors are working their butt off to extend 2G and 2.5G GSM systems, until a favorable (to them) resolution to WCDMA occurs."

Europe, being last, looses significance in the equation.

Asia holds the cards. Asia can't wait - either for wCDMA to work or for Europe to "catch up".

If wCDMA can't compete with 1x and 2000 by mid 2001, Europe's virgin version of wCDMA has lost.

NTT will begin its wCDMA rollout with 1x, as it must compete with DDI on an even bandwidth field to save I-Mode's lead. (Recall, again, SK's wCDMA version (which is NTT's) is compatible with 1x, and ERICY has stated that both wCDMA and 2000 are upgrade paths from 1x.)

If NTT does not roll out the Euro virgin version of wCDMA in May (which, cannot happen), Fortress Europe will find itself isolated.
