From that same article

"While retail sales of Windows 2000 have been solid"

Did I sleep through the part where people stood outside CompUSA at 12 am to get their copy like they did for WIN95.
Does anyone know anybody who went and bought a copy?

Tony, According to Murphy and others the CA/BMC shortfalls had as much to do with economic factors as IBM new mainframe release. Companies having just come thru Y2K expenses and beginning to feel the effects of higher interest rates and other pressures on bottom line + confusion over the many choices in software currently available may have collectively decided that now was the time to slow down a bit on purchases. With MSFT we are talking about a potential 5% slowdown in sales for this past quarter as well as the one we are now in. With CA and BMCS because of the IBM factor mainframe software sales slumped much more. BTW, Does anybody have a feeling about the future of BMC and CA going forward as investments.

sure, microsoft is not computer associates. nonetheless, it is my opinion (or gut feeling) that microsoft will have a revenue disappointment again. this is based on the fact that the second and third quarters were soft and history tends to repeat itself. we'll know soon enough.
