Interesting article on proteomics in June 00 issue of redherring. It singles out Illumina, private company that will be ipo'd by GS (tentatively priced at 9-11), as having a killer app. Its process uses fibre optics to isolate proteins with incredible speed and at incredible orders of magnitude. Other companies mentioned are vrtx, gnsl.

One way to get into PE Celera (CRA)/genomics area is buying into a company which makes tools to decode. This just just like CSCO which supply the vehicle for the internets.

One of such companies is PE Biosystems (PEB), which also has ownership in CRA.
