There really wasn't anything colorful in what I said. Maybe that's why it seemed menacing to the bystanders-- because they sure looked spooked. Which surprised me. It was just a flat explanation of why I wouldn't back up to suit her, combined with flame coming out of my eyes. I shouldn't have let her arouse my temper. I should have smiled and acted as if she had just paid me a compliment, which would have really pissed her off. Another opportunity lost.

BTW, I got up at 5 am to see that Bicentennial locomotive come through Anaheim in '76. I love steam locomotives, and that was a great one. I think it was a Southern Pacific Daylight engine with 80 inch drivers, probably a Pacific.

I found your locomotive. It's Southern Pacific engine #4449, a 4-8-4 Class GS4. You can find it at this site
