re: Giant Leap of Faith

Apollo described my last post as passionate. Stockhawk suggested caution because a network effect in innovation is not a forgone conclusion and must be monitored. DownSouth pointed out my giant leap of faith since a discontinuous innovation can lead to the falling of the undefeatable.
I don't disagree with any of those commentaries.
I also argued that the innovations are more likely to come from the edges, specifically including start-ups. But,also argued those start-ups might later want to be acquired by JDSU. However, my main point here is that innovation is power and that JDSU has been first mover and top dog and that gives them many advantages in keeping that power. There is data on scientific careers that leads me to believe in increasing returns: that success generates more success. Of course, JDSU could mess it up, and maybe they have the discontinuous innovation in Phase 4. Still, I will hold more tightly than lightly. I do intend to keep watching and see what I can learn. Eternal vigilance is the price of investing. I will update my personal profile soon.
