Can anyone answer this question (previously posted on one of the ubiquitous Qcom threads)?

Why are Korea and Japan in a rush to get a 3G network operating by the year 2002?

I know, and the answer may surprise you.

Hint, it is something to do with a sort of global 'standard' that the US lags behind the majority of the world with....no surprise there then ;-)

PM me with answers before I post the correct answer some time tomorrow.

Mika: Thanks as always. If "free" spectrum, that means greenfield build out, no?

Re Samsung, suggest you check. I take their "announcement" seriously, you may not.

And the Samsung 1xEV is very real. As the old (US saying due to baseball, not cricket or rugby or football (called - sadly - soccer)) in the US, "wait 'til next year."

Best.

Chaz.

PS And again I appreciate your helping a less tech savy person than yourself.
