The people love roads and war and tax cuts It was the elites who got us into two world wars. Populists wanted to keep us out of those wars. The idea that Huey Long could have beaten Roosevelt in 1936 is interesting, but unlikely A victory for Long wouldn't have been certain, but if he had run 3rd party in the general election, he would have screwed the election for Roosevelt. If he chose not to go 3rd party, he would have been well positioned to run in 1940.
