ESPI:
WRT ESPI - Worldcom just bought-or is in the process of buying - intermedia-I think there is a similar opportunity for others in this space --
I expect some sympathy plays primarily companies with web hosting assets / data network customers.
ESPI is an intergreated comunications provider. e.Spire Communications (formerly American Communications Services, Inc.) is an integrated communications provider to businesses. The company combines dedicated, local and long distance voice services with frame relay, asynchronous transfer mode (ATM), and Internet services.
In the past few years, ESPI enhanced the scope of its product offerings from dedicated services to a full range of switched voice, data and Internet services, to meet the needs of business end users. At December 31, 1999, the company had 38 operational networks in 21 states.
They also offers high-speed data services, including frame relay, ATM traffic and Internet access.
Following the January 1997 acquisition of Cybergate, Inc., the company began to offer high-speed data communications services, including computer network connections and related infrastructure services, to allow Internet access for both commercial and residential customers. In November 1998, Cybergate acquired Internet Communications of America, a leading provider of dial-up and dedicated Internet access and web hosting services. As of December 31, 1999, they had more than 100,000 customers from network technologies.
ACSI NT, Inc. (formed in 1998) pursues market opportunities in the fiber optic network design and construction arena.
Expected improvement to its telecom buisness in the 2000 3rd quarter and also projected another significant contribution from its NT subsidiuary and growth in its web hosting business. The company is increasing capacity in several of its key switch markets, and is continuing to improve its back office processes. ESPI also expects to continue to add customers in the high-margin Web hosting business.
Insiders have been buying the stock up and lead me to believe that they may be hot on the trail of an acquisition target....
