Not to defend Paul, but I experienced a Gateway sales rep lying to me about a "Thunderbird recall" as well...

He may have been truthful, and the Gateway rep to blame.

Scary, but true.

Doug

Mister Ed - Re: "Quite a bit different than the "AMD has recalled their 1Ghz" tale that you tried to pass on a few weeks ago. "

I was given the SAME INFORMATION that your very own BELOVED DOUG passed on just last week.

Why don't you dump all over him ?

Gateway rep told me AMD has recalled their 1GHz Tbirds (by phone, last night)
She put me on hold, came back on, and said the following:

"That's the Thunderbird chip you're asking about, right? I just talked to my tech guy-- things are not good, AMD has recalled those chips, and we won't be selling them again."

You can imagine my alarm.

I've written Toni Beckham, asking for confirm/deny.

I've pulled out of all my AMD positions until I hear back from her.

For reference, I spoke with an agent at 1-800-846-4510 ext. 75800

I made the call after reading a similar claim on the unreliable Yahoo board... although the post was made by a poster who's been seemingly bullish up until now. He claimed to have actually spoken with a tech guy, and was told something about a severe thermal issue-- I got no technical details out of my call, but the response I got was very firm...

If anyone else could call AMD IR, call Gateway, confirm/deny somehow... please do!

I want to be back in, but I can't do it until this is put to rest.

Doug

eplace, RE: gateway recall. I see chicken little is still running around screaming about the imminent fall of the sky.
What else could you expect. His guiding light had been dimmed for over ayear now and is reduced to stock trading one time profits to shore up earnings.
now the sky of falling on Intel as the price wars get down and dirty and ASPs fall and they are running out of shares to sell. Stll big dinosaur company. Brain dead, but body vegetatively carries one.
