??? Charles ??? -- under Reagan we went from a dozen marginal tax rates to two: 15% and 28%. That's simplification. And we eliminated many "deductions". In fact, under Reagan it became illegal for Congress to pass tax deduction laws that only benefitted 50 or fewer taxpayers. Gee, guess how rich those taxpayers must have been?

Well, of course, now the richest 80 taxpayers in the US have an association, to rig their returns to make sure Congress doesn't violate any laws when it gives them deductions no one else can deduct.

But truly, Reagan helped us in his first term. Look at a chart of taxation as a percent of GDP. It declines in only one year out of the last 50: 1981-82, Reagan's big tax reform.

He is the last guy who really cared about the highly-motivated middle class, in my opinion.
