Don't get me wrong Flash is an important area to be in especially if you can shrink the die sizes and keep above the curve it should be a cash cow. The problem with being known for flash is when over capacity takes over (and it will) you are dragged down as it becomes a commodity. SiGe, ASIC, smartcards etc. don't become commodities they are application specific. Intel & AMD have Flash but their known for microprocessors. My point is that I don't think the average Joe understands Atmel's story (a good story at that).

Atmel investors-

Here's an interesting On24 segment that discusses the concept of the "wireless wallet" and how smart card technology will be involved. At the end, the speaker mentions several companies which might benefit from this sort of paradigm shift. Of course Atmel should have been mentioned, but it wasn't. You can just put an imaginary Atmel plug in though. While you're at it, close your eyes and imagine Atmel back at $25 or so. Uuugh.
