Actually Ntap's snap mirror for backup is the same thing as snap shot. Being host independant with sotrage virtualization software help relieve the servers from accessing the files just like the ntap filer. Better throughput, I don't think so. NTAP sits off of the network line. Maybe better throughput for a low-grade environments but not for a very busy environment as opposed to fibre channel I suggesst you research the emergence of san software capabilities and open your mind before you make yourself look like a narrow minded jack ass. Stay with the times old man.
