US MARKET SITUATION
Texas has opened and Louisiana is closing. With a market that is continuing to move along about as fast as a tourist in New Orleans in July, prices are reacting only to imminent supply in the case of Gulf production and imminent scarcity of black tigers and Ecuadorian whites.

Gulf shrimp prices began to move down in mid-June with the anticipated opening of the Texas offshore area that opened July 6. The Louisiana inshore season will close in the central coastal area tonight at midnight (July 9). The inshore brown shrimp area usually closes when the new crop of white shrimp begin to show up. The offshore area remains open.

Peeled shrimp prices began dropping in early June just after the Louisiana season opened. Most of the June production from the Central Gulf Coast, East Texas (bays) through Alabama, went into production of peeled (pud).
