MUMBAI 2 MAY
SBI Mutual Fund has taken a six per cent stake in Jadoonet.com for a consideration of Rs 6.67 crore. Jadoonet.com is a joint venture between Salora International and Infoquest e-commerce.
The mutual fund arm of State Bank of India has bought 236,400 shares at a price of Rs 282 per share, setting the valuation of the company at Rs 125 crore. Jadoonet.com is engaged in the manufacture of set-top boxes (internet access devices) that allow surfers to browse through the television. The set-top box comes with a wireless keyboard which has a range of 21 feet.
The pre-requisites of a set-top box are a TV and a telephone line. The former provides access to the internet. The company has tied up with Samsung Electronics to market its set-top boxes through the Samsung network. Following the preferential offer made to SBI MF, Jadoonet.com’s equity increases to Rs 4.4 crore, from Rs 4.2 crore. The fund has made the investment through its six schemes — MMPS-93, Magnum Growth Fund, GIFTS-B, MEF, MELS-91 and MRIS-93. Jadoonet’s internet appliance is manufactured at Salora’s plant in Delhi and it has a technology transfer agreement with Web-2U, a UK-based firm that is a world leader in internet technology.
