I think the interesting thing about this kind of banter is both sides of the Elian coin can see the thinking process involved on the other side concerning numerous issues.

When we go south we always take extra volumes of Lonely Planets for the locals, there is always a youth eager to learn english, and their books are so full of useful organised detail that even a local can learn something about their own and adjacent areas ... as well as the perspective in which they are seen by the world [or at least the writers of the books anyway, lol] .... i see their book prices have tripled in a decade, though ... but they are really well done, and can save a backpacker tremendous amounts of time and money ... they're heavy, though, you don't want to carry six of them around.
