I would think that Intel has an interest in any memory technology which can address the needs of its future microprocessors. If that technology comes from Rambus then so be it. If it comes from someone else they will still be interested. In any event, the die is cast and companies will be paying for memory IP.

Before we give too much credence to this Intel chipset ban, what was the origin of this story? I don't think I've seen any confirmation of this from either company, or a 10-K or 10-Q.

As far as I can see it is a rumour, and nothing more at the moment.
