MSFT splitting in several companies is irrelevant to your contention. The surviving entities would be equally monitored by authority as the parent for many years. Gates is not trying to control the assets he purchased except up to influence, i.e., influence or encourage managers of minority owned companies to buy from MSFT. That's perfectly legal and it's different from the OS-App snafu with companies like Dell.
