Enel SpA, NTT Data and Sun Microsystems to Deliver Keynote Addresses at Echelon's LonWorld2000 Conference and Exhibition
Talks To Underscore Role of LonWorks Networks in Service-Driven Internet Business Models
SUNNYVALE, Calif.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--July 18, 2000-- Echelon Corporation (Nasdaq:ELON - news) announced today that senior executives from Enel SpA, NTT Data and Sun Microsystems will be keynote speakers at Echelon's LonWorld2000(TM) Conference and Exhibition taking place October 18-19 in Orlando, Fla. LonWorld(TM) is the world's largest annual forum focused on the technology and business of networking everyday devices. As keynote speakers, Mr. Alberto Perego, director of projects at Enel; Mr. Teruyoshi Kawai, senior executive vice president of NTT Data; and Ms. Pat Sueltz, president of Sun's Software Products and Platforms Division will present attendees with real-world examples of the new markets, applications, and services that are enabled by networking everyday devices in homes, buildings, factories, and transportation systems.
In his keynote speech, Mr. Perego will speak about Enel's vision of ``intelligent power'' and the business opportunities available to utilities to lower cost, improve service, and build a value-added service-delivery platform. Echelon and Enel recently announced an R&D agreement under which the companies will cooperate to integrate Echelon's LonWorks® system into Enel's remote metering management project for approximately 27 million Italian households. Enel's digital meter project, called ``Contatore Elettronico,'' will provide intelligent electricity meters capable of being integrated into a complete home networking infrastructure over a 3-year rollout period.
Mr. Kawai's talk will focus on the opportunities created by unified networks -- coupling data networks with device networks -- and the benefits derived by such a union. NTT Data, the leading provider of information systems and computer networking in Japan, is an Echelon Authorized Network Integrator and offers design, construction, operations, and maintenance services of LonWorks-based control systems to real estate and construction companies.
Ms. Sueltz will speak about the service-driven business models that will drive the new economy and, specifically, the benefits and flexibility that can be achieved from leveraging Sun's existing Internet infrastructure and the millions of LonWorks devices installed worldwide. Sun and Echelon have recently formed an alliance to connect LonWorks networks with Java(TM) technology services.
``We are thrilled to have Mr. Perego, Mr. Kawai, and Ms. Sueltz speaking at this year's LonWorld,'' said Ken Oshman, Echelon's chairman, president and CEO. ``LonWorld provides a unique opportunity for the best minds in the industry to get together, share ideas and view firsthand the enormous applications and opportunities available in a truly networked world. Attendees at this year's conference will have the benefit of hearing from some of the world's largest companies about how everyday devices networked with our LonWorks platform are enhancing the value and competitiveness of their businesses.''
Scheduled to take place at Orlando's Orange County Convention Center, LonWorld2000 is designed to help end-users, integrators, service providers, and manufacturers learn how to use the LonWorks system in their business. The two-day conference features a series of forums, classes and presentations along with an exhibition of products and services covering the home/utility, building, industrial, and transportation markets. Sponsorship, registration and exhibition information about LonWorld2000 can be found at lonworld2000.com.
