Interesting quote from that author of that statement. Most of us probably, including myself, know a good deal about mutual funds; except, perhaps, the very unsophisticated among us who have the courtesy to remain mum on issues that are beyond their grasp. I, personally, believe that I have done considerably better (over the short, medium and long term) than 100% of any of the funds. I really do not want to appear to be competing, especially with that creature, but I do believe that the statement deserves a proper response.
