Excite finally chasing down Yahoo
excite.de

What do you mean by "chasing down"? Months ago I wanted to switch my email address from from the one offered by the ISP to a Web-based, provider-independent service. At that time I was long ATHM and checked whether they offered POP3/SMTP access (so that you can send/receive mail with your favorite email program on your PC and don't have to log on to the Web site). They didn't, so I signed up at Yahoo!. Nearly a year later Excite still doesn't offer POP3/SMTP access. Meanwhile I have sent thousands of email messages through Yahoo!, all carrying a footer with a Yahoo! teaser which I accept in exchange for the free service. I don't know anybody who uses the Excite.de portal but many people who frequent the German Yahoo! site. It's not my intention to add to the "board negativity" - just to report what the local non-status of Excite is.
