Dave,

If you had seen the movie already, the context for Rocky would be obvious.

Dave:
Confernece call

Tate says 3 ways RMBS's wins

1. RDRAM wins on performance. Tate talking about mostly about PS/2. RDRAM vs PC133 benchmarks tests results are skewed by no multitasking tests. Alludes to P4 64 bit 400 MHz FSB 3.2 MBit /sec bus is a good match for dual channel RDRAM of 3.2 Mbit/sec

2. Price differential. 256 MB RDRAM should reduce this differntial.

3. SDRAM licensing agreements. 85 issued patents blab blab blab, no specifics.

Questions? 4 total

Q. Where do they stand with other DRAM vendors RE licensing.

A. It will take a while to get around to other DRAM manufacturers. They will have some additional results in the not to distant future. No information on details RE about SDRAM controllers.

Q. RE Antitrust roumer

A. No info. available on this roumer

Q. Edelstone's placeholder asked about number of vendors involved in licensing

A. end of double digit range (less than 10). Most have both logic and memory SDRAM sales; one logic only (LSI IMO).

Dave,

I saw Chicken Run last Friday and loved it but I can tell you this - it's definitely not a kids movie. Threat of death and all that.

Did you listen to the conf call? Tate was brimming with confidence. When asked about it, he said that the report referred to by the questioner about a meeting of memory makers to discuss Rambus antitrust was just a rumor and that "to his knowledge nothing is happening."

He also said, "We think that ANY high speed DRAM will infringe on MANY of our patents." Period.

To a question about how many companies is Rambus already talking to re the use of their IP in non-Rambus products, he said, "The number is now in double digits and will go higher." "We are talking to memory companies, logic companies and memory/logic companies. There are many more we will be talking to." The VP of Intellectual Property is has been on the plane every weekend for the last month doing just that.
