HML, On a pe ratio basis, UCL is certainly pricey vs. Texaco. However, UCL has more gas than oil, the opposite of our local Houston yokels, and that is where I think the values are. Also, UCL is a takeover candidate and TX isn't. And then there is the fact that most gas people consider TX management lacking in gray matter. Though UCL's top dogs aren't anyone's first call on a Regis Philbin Lifeline, either.

I think utilities look cheap because they are forced to compete for the first time in history. The great majority of utility mgt. people are not up to that challenge.
