pan am did not hit a new low in toronto, and closed up actually on a puny 300 shares near the end, but it traded as low as a fin (52 week low = 4.90 here)

why would the central fund be at a low ? i thought all they did was own physical and that is not at a 52 week low...

in the case of TVX there's also the pending final approval of the project in Greece - all indications are that the permit needed to begin mining will be granted. that would almost double TVX's output, and lower its overall production costs considerably if the estimates are to be believed.
actually most of the mid tier producers will probably be taken over anyway...or perhaps one of them gets cute and begins to merge with other smaller producers to gain some critical mass.
but a shake-up is inevitable imo.

Hi Bob,

Do you know why TVX only took a maximum of 50% stakes (now 25% with TVX/Normandy) in its mines?

La Coipa and Musselwhite are shared with Placer, Crixas with Anglogold, Brasilia with Rio Tinto, and New Britannia with High River.

Seems a bit strange . . .

Best regards, John.
