Marc, I am sure you know, as a regular contributor to the G/K thread that you are, I am a subscriber to the ggame paradigm. The G/K thread has a very specific purpose, theme and approach that many find very valuable. Loss of discipline on that thread would be a great loss for my investing life and that of many others.

This thread is not a thread about paradigms. It is a thread about a company and, to a lesser degree, about the storage sector.

I try to contribute to this thread in that spirit. Many have done so. Through my efforts to illuminate NTAP on the G/K thread, many Ggamers have acquired considerable equity in NTAP. They monitor and contribute to this thread frequently. The fact that they came to the defense of me and this thread should not be confused with "protecting the 'thread elders'."

Attacks and counter attacks are all too common on SI. Just because a ggamer or two are involved in the counter tactics doesn't mean that "thread elders" are being defended. What is happening is that credible people, of which I consider you to be among, are being defended against inappropriate, non-productive, provocative posters by their friends and people who may themselves feel harmed by the provocation.

Thanks for your good words here and your contributions to all of the SI discussions that you join.

Jerry

>> Consequently, I am weary and wary of the G & Kers approach to "policing of the thread" and protecting the "thread elders" coming to individual stock threads that have done fine on their own for years.

Any time a threadmate who has selflessly contributed to the prosperity of the group comes under personal attack, I feel compelled to voice my outrage. I can understand why you might view that as a character flaw, but don't understand why you have used it as a platform to attack G&Kers in general, particularly since you have been the recipient of that group's hospitality on several occasions.

If you want to continue this discussion I'll be happy to accept your suggestions for behavioral improvement by pm. There's no reason to squander any more of this thread's bandwidth.

ditto! on the name calling and personal insults. As to the growing weary about "policing the thread", I may have a slightly different view. One of the reasons G&K has remained such a valuable source of information and idea exchange is the fact that discussion is carried out in a civil and respectful manner.

There are occasions when some drop by and try to start and new ball game or digress to course language and they are quickly chastised. The respectful ones, that have erred by mistake are contrite and quickly become productive contributors or just lurk. The most obstinate ones generally provoke a rain of condemnation from a wide range of members.

I view this a bit like having an open house party at your home. If the guest become unruly you ask them to leave and do not invite them back. While I lurk on several threads focusing on G&K stocks, I still appreciate the friendly camaraderie of those threads.
