That would do it. In my own case, I simply decided that liberalism had lost its bearings,and would not stand up for Western values and institutions consistently. As I deradicalized, I became conservative in order to conserve the West against internal assault and external threat......

Some right wing trivia - John Birch was the first casualty of the Cold War. He was a pilot who was shot down. Nobody knows what his politics were. Robert Welch (the candy and grape juice guy) founded the society.
