i wonder what the break through the recent lows portends..is it a fake-out, or a sign that a bout of capitulation selling is due?

actually is the PoG stays around current levels, the XAU is a screaming buy as your work indicates. unfortunately it is usually the XAU that leads...

I think there is an intangible here that did not exist in the past. When the producers engaged in hedging future production, they left themselves open to charges that they artificially increased supply to the market. These additional ounces compounded the decline in the price of gold. Investors are now aware of this and have chosen to boycott investing in gold producers. I believe this reflects the current low level of the xau. Just my opinion.
