DJ Excite@Home Earnings -3: Broadband Subscriber Base Up 21%

Excite@Home (ATHM) said its residential broadband subscriber base has risen
21% -- or 300,000 subscribers -- since March 31 to 1.8 million customers. In
the 1999 second quarter, the company had 620,000 subscribers.

Traffic on the company's Excite networks averaged 137 million daily page
views in the second quarter, a 69% increase from the same period last year.

Modem shortage. No company ramps at a completely predictable and constant rate. They should be able to make that up. The 1.2 implies UMG subs.

Also I believe they got more homes passed than expected. Limited footprint has always been the issue.

A sequential increase of 21% is fantastic, aya. It is the net increase that counts. Cable modem shortage does NOT reflect on ATHM, it reflects on one supplier. It proves that demand is great.

Besides, we already knew that there would be a decline in absolute numbers of new subscribers relative to Q1. It is already factored into the stock price.
