I think you have to delve into the concept of marginal accounting ie with fixed costs, admin, already covered what does it cost to produce an additional ounce of gold? Barrick, for one, has mines in South America, Nevada, Tanzania - there is a great deal of additional gold to be brought into production in all these areas where the infrastructure is already in place. So it's not going to cost $350/oz to bring these extra millions of ounces on stream. They are exploring and developing in their own back yard. So the rich are going to get a whole lot richer - it almost amounts to internal growth.
