Makes sense to me.

Did you see JDSU will be added to the S&P 500? Kinda makes the list I was working on obsolete. BRCM, the last high cap stock added, was announced on 6/19 and added after the close on 6/30.

I suspect you will see the same pattern unfold with JDSU. Not sure about the degree, but JDSU should go up and the S&P 500 lower.

Been so long since I studied stocks I don't even know where to get the market caps of each of them. Sheesh....I have become incompetent.

Some would argue the timing in that statement.

OK, here are some more numbers:

BRCM market cap at the close the day the announcement was made: 31.6 billion, 215.19 million shares outstanding.

JDSU market cap at the close the day the announcement was made (today): 83.48 billion, 782.05 million shares outstanding.

Float would be an interesting number to have....based on the above, JDSU should have a larger impact on the S&P...almost three times as large a market cap as BRCM.
