Welcome to Qancr, haven't seen you around these here parts before. This is a non - event/issue that was discussed in the cc. The chips were pre- production samples that were sent to Adpt for development work, never intended to be included in any product. Adpt needs to stop trying to cut corners and learn how to read directions. I see that you are an attorney, perhaps you would be available to help write some warnings for a label.

Sam, Adaptec hates Qlogic, because Q competes in the scsi business, which Adaptec "owns". Thus, it is not surprising to me that adpt trumpets a minor glitch.
I once listened to an adpt conference call wherein the board chairman and CEO LAUGHED at Fibre Channel technology! I sold adpt the next day, and the company has gone nowhere, living on its scsi legacy. wj
