The plummeting price today appears to be related to the second quarter financial results report issued July 19, although specifically what the problem(s) are is not obvious to me. A number which jumps out at me is the huge hit due to "stock based compensation" for the six months ended June 30, 2000, an increase of over $ 8 million over the six months ending June 30, 1999. It raises the question whether insiders are taking extraordinary compensation out of the company. The SEC reports lend some support to that possibility.

In any event, whatever the reasons may be, the huge hit today is bothersome for shareholders who do not have the advantage of being able to exercise stock options for pennies per share.

It makes one wonder why the August edition of Red Herring still has MPLX in the Red Herring Portfolio and whether Red Herring staff is reading the pertinent SEC reports.

I hope I am missing or misinterpreting something.
