TWY, >While the NetFinity line has and continues to do very well, Gerstner was referring to 30% growth in the high end and mid range Unix servers. It is truly amazing how you and Puerile Paul can spin ANYTHING into a plus for Intel. There is little objective Intel discussion on this thread anymore.

You're right, about the first part. You won't believe me, but after reading IBM's quarter results more closely, I was just going to post that it wasn't Intel based servers that IBM was crowing about the most, because they were described as "advanced new high-end and mid-range models..." They're undoubtedly RS6000s (from IBM's website):

.SOMERS, N.Y., June 23, 2000 .. IBM announced today that it has passed Sun Microsystems in midrange UNIX server market segment share, significantly outpacing the year-to-year growth rate of UNIX rival Sun, according to a report just released by International Data Corporation (IDC). IBM’s growth was fueled by the insertion of performance-enhancing copper microprocessors into its RS/6000 UNIX server line.

There, disclaimer.

By the way, did you always have a (Paul Bunyan sized) chip on your shoulder?

Oh, if you want objective discussion, try the AMD thread nearest you. NOT.

Tony

Next month, INTC will be trading in the 80's...
