Jefferson did not unilaterally accomplish the Louisiana Purchase. Congress appropriated the money.
He also fought like hell to keep religious professors out of UVA. The Rehnquist Court must have enjoyed forcing UVA to subsidize religious student groups.

Question: Was not the American constitution the first country in the world to have an elected head of state? I cannot think of any other state that had a leader that was elected at that time.
