COOTERS. On 1X ASIC's per CC answer to Deutsche Bank question. a) sent commercial samples in June, b) Taking orders now, c) Some shipments in Q4, d) more in Q1 of 2001. Now,my notes are cold so I didn't make it absolutely clear that Q1 of 2001 means the fiscal quarter startng 10/1/2000 but that is my belief. Further, I am sure all initial production orders of these chips will go directly to to Korean subs at the speed of light and be placed in phones the next day.

You can be sure that QCOM and all its chip fabs are busting ass to ship 1X MC chips ASAP.

Do you understand how IS95C deployment can be slated for October and 1X chipsets not be shipping in any volume until FY01 2001(Oct-Dec 2000)?

It has always surprised me how slow the ramp-up of new chips has been. The MSM3100 was released in February and I think that Qualcomm said that the "crossover" point with the 3000 wouldnt occur until the fourth quarter. I dont think that operators are foresighted enough to start ordering 1xrtt handsets until the infrastructure is in place....so Korea is likely the only place that will be selling 1x handsets until at least the 2Q '01. US shipments probably wont start until next summer.
