yes, by all means, contact a manufacturer.

i don't know the age of your machine, or the warranty specs, etc, but there is every reason for you to be calling for tech assistance, imo

even the manufacturer of the hardware you just installed may offer help. i don't think yours is an uncommon problem.

one more thing... did you make those changes i suggested for both your cd-rom drive AND your removable disk drive? if not, a conflict may still exist there that is holding everything up.

btw, while in device manager, have you checked for yellow exclamation marks in front of any of the devices, signaling a problem?
