Well, you are right, I am focused on speculating about results closer to the catastrophe. I see now that you are simply assuming that eventually, as things settle, Noah Rat and his wife begin the process of repopulation, and a new round of evolution takes place. Of course, I would say this lands us back in the difficulties faced before PE was introduced into the discussion: the stability of genetic inheritance, the slowness of accrued changes versus a dynamic habitat, the supply of niches easing competition for resources, the indifference of most traits for purposes of selection, and so forth.......
