THis management has no clue as to how to play with the Street.

At the close today, LU is .125 below its close 2 weeks ago. During the run up, the volume of messages on this board was very low. Today, lots of people who don't own Lucent felt that the most productive or fun thing they could do was to contribute to this board and gloat. With that perspective, I guess I should feel sorrier for them than for those of us who own LU.

Sorry about your loss today (I bet you mine was worse), but you make a lot of untrue generalized statements. That isnt going to help us deal with this.

First I agree with you about the short/medium term prospects.

About it falling: LU has been dead money for some time now, I dont believe it has much room to fall, especially in light of two spinoffs. It is after all the leading telecom manufacturer in the world and will grow better than 20% after Avaya spin. LUs earnings are about double NTs, with half the stock valuation. Justified I guess since NT expects to grow at 35%.

Dont short a stock that is close to its 52 week low, that's not a good bet.

If you walk the halls of LU you see damn few guys over 45. The people and their caliber is about the same as CSCO, NT and other giants. What is different is the management's long term strategies. McGinn and his staff made a bad decision 2 years ago (and several others since then), and that explains the earnings problems. Not old guys versus young.

We should have all bought CSCO and NT etc a year ago.

RE: "I say they've demonstrated that they're a bunch of dead old white men in a young man's game"

EXCUSE ME?! Exactly what does the "white" have to do with it? You are way out of line, just imagine you had said black or brown or yellow or red, how would that be accepted?

Warrior, I still haven't learned all my lessons from the stock market, but I did learn one good one the hard way. When a stock reports trouble, as Lucent did the first time, way back last year, GET OUT at any cost! Usually there is more trouble to come. Some rebound nicely but most struggle for a long, long time, like Compaq, for example. Don't get married to the stock! Just my opinion but It's worked for me.
